A Leader in Aerospace for Four Decades

David W. Stewart (born 1939) has lived in Florida since 1941 and worked in the aerospace industry for 40 years. Stewart, who has a degree in physics, became a Senior Engineer of the Convair/General Dynamics Atlas in Cape Canaveral, Florida from 1959 to 1963. From 1963 to 1966, he was a Lead Engineer of Gemini Titan with Martin Marietta in Cape Canaveral. He was a Lead Engineer on the Sprint ABM at Martin’s Orlando Division plant from 1966 to 1967. By request, he joined North American Aviation (Rockwell Space Systems) as a lead engineer on the Apollo Command and Service Module after the Apollo 1 fire. He stayed with Rockwell in 1975 as a project manager for Space Shuttle avionics systems after Apollo.

For the first Space Shuttle flight, Mr. Stewart was a supervisor for the flight software and was then promoted by Rockwell to Manager of Advanced Engineering and Business Development. His last role at Rockwell was as Program Development Manager for Launch Operations. He helped develop, sell, and launch the United Space Alliance, a joint venture between Rockwell and Lockheed.

After retirement, Mr. Stewart founded L&D Consulting, a firm specializing in business plans, proposals, and grants. Mr. Stewart’s experience in aerospace strengthens his skills in creative and critical thinking—essential tools in authoring a novel. His interests in paranormal phenomena, global politics, and metaphysics round out David’s academic and professional background. These factors influence his fictional writing style.
