Amparo “Ammie” Medina was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and moved to New York City with her family at the age of nine. As the eldest of six children, she learned early the values of responsibility, perseverance, and service. She was educated in the New York City public school system and went on to earn two undergraduate degrees through the City University of New York. Committed to lifelong learning, she later completed two graduate degrees at Manhattan University and Mercy University.
