“Nora Wellington is CEO/ Founder of N Wellington Associates LLC, a long term care consulting company, specializing in helping Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNFs) and Nursing Facilities (NFs) with the overall management and operations of the facilities, with survey preparedness, with Quality and with attaining and maintaining regulatory requirements. Wellington has twenty-seven plus years of hands-on licensed nursing home administrator experience; additional services provided include interim administrator, mock survey, QAPI Program, educational in-services, and acceptable plans of correction. She is very passionate about patient care, about Quality and about regulatory compliance. She is hardworking and routinely ensures operationally that her clients’ facilities meet the Quality goals for the patients and for the organizations.
Wellington always receives positive feedback from owners and/or corporate leaders for her consulting work at the SNFs and NFs. Working with facilities leadership teams, department heads, and staffs, she usually produces efficiency in operations and successful survey outcomes. Clients and facilities that she has consulted with include national, regional, and local long term care organizations. Prior to becoming an entrepreneur/consultant, Wellington during a permanent administrator position as nursing home administrator, she helped one of the local hospitals in the Washington, DC area open a brand new hospital-based skilled nursing facility in 1996. She served as a hands-on administrator at this hospital-based facility for eleven years, helping this hospital expand its continuum of care for the community. She had successful annual surveys and was able also to secure Joint Commission Accreditation for this facility.
Because of her love and passion for her profession, Wellington usually works well with the facility leadership team for all aspects of facility operations, successfully meeting regulatory changes, and new quality and other initiatives, while helping facilities to prepare for year-round survey readiness. She has designed several monitoring tools for use internally in the facilities that she has served as administrator. She teaches and train staff at all levels in addition to the facilities staff development programs. She has an MBA from George Washington University in Washington, DC. She also attended the University of Maryland (UMUC) to do hare course work in Gerontology, Ageing & Disability, and Long Term Care Administration. She is a Certified INTERACT Champion, which helps facilities that she serves as interim administrator; focus on reducing unnecessary transfers to the hospital. She is a member of the District of Columbia HealthCare Association; LifeSpan Network; and American College of Health Care Administrators.
Wellington has published two books: (1) The Fundamentals of Quality for Long Term Care, Part 1, and (2) Long Term Care Monitoring Tools Resident Meal Time Dining Experience Kitchen & Food Service. She also wrote an article as a host writer for McKnight’s Long Term Care News: Title: “Tips to Help Staff Increase Familiarity with Federal LTC Regulations”. She has also designed training workshops on topics such as “Effective Communication Skills with Focus on Assertiveness”; “Customer Service Effectiveness”; and “Team Building” for small size organizations.”
