Description

George Seevers is born in Illinois and at 2 years old was placed in an orphanage. He was made to work at a very early age and did not go to school. A matron took pity on him and taught him to read. He read everything that he could and at one point read about the Pacific Ocean. His greatest desire was to see the ocean. When he was 15, he ran away from the orphanage and worked his way west. He spent time in Rapid City, S. D. and Cheyenne, Wy. He was married and started his family in Cheyenne, then moved to Portland, Or. After a few years there, he moved to a small town in Eastern Washington called Rawlings. He owned a hotel and was the chef in the diner. He raised his family there.
After a time, he had to go to Portland to rescue his oldest daughter. He made it to the Pacific Ocean on that trip, but took his wife, daughter and grandson back to Rawlings to live out his life.
