The Public Library Association (PLA) is the largest association that supports the unique and evolving needs of public librarians. Founded in 1944 as a division of the American Library Association (ALA), its aims to address the core challenges public libraries and their communities face today. As such, the PLA offers continuing education opportunities to members, develop public library initiatives, and, above all, host a biennial conference.
The PLA Conference doesn’t only bring public library professionals together but also welcome them into a meaningful partnership. Through this Conference, the PLA seeks to improve public library services; help staff adapt and absorb new responsibilities, and; make leaders out of public librarians.
