With virtual book fairs and digital conferences taking over, the year 2021 should be a great year for the following national and international book events.
With the recent success of virtual book events like the 2020 LA Times Festival of Books and last month’s New York Library Association Virtual Conference and Trade Show, it is safe to say that many book event organizers are gearing up for the coming year. 2021 Doha International Book Fair
The book event calendar next year will kick off with one of the largest book fairs in the Arab-speaking world, the Doha International Book Fair. The ten-day book event is scheduled to open on January 7 and will close on January 16, 2021. 2021 Bologna Children’s Book Fair
Another big June event is happening next year. The 2021 Bologna Children’s Book Fair is set on June 14-17. For 57 years, the Bologna Children’s Book Fair has become the business and creative hub not only for Italian publishers and authors but also for many professionals, multimedia artists, writers, and literary agents across the globe.
2021 Association of College and Research Libraries
Virtual events are expected to continue very well into next year, and one of them is the 2021 Association of College and Research Libraries or ACRL. The Association represents more than 10,000 individuals and libraries. This year though, the annual gathering of librarians, publishers, and book lovers is set to go virtual this April 13-16.
2021 BookExpo New Title Showcase
The yearly Book Expo is the largest book trade fair in the United States. The BookExpo New Title Showcase is its official book exhibit. The 2021 BookExpo is scheduled for May 26 to 29 in New York, New York. Over 11,000 participants and guests are expected in the said event. 2021 American Library Association Annual Conference
Considered as one of the largest library events in the world, the ALA or American Library Association Annual Conference & Exhibition gathers together more than 20,000 librarians and library staff, educators, speakers, authors, publishers, trustees, special guests, and exhibitors. This year, the event is scheduled to take place on June 24-29, 2021.
2021 Beijing International Book Fair
Undeniably the world’s largest market, China is a powerhouse in the publishing industry, and the annual Beijing International Book Fair (BIBF) is its largest stage. Every year, hundreds of publishers and thousands of guests and participants flock to Beijing to take part in the grandest gathering of authors, retailers, multimedia artists, illustrators, press, and other interested parties. The most important book event in Asia, the 2021 Beijing International Book Fair is expected to commence with a bang this August.
2021 Frankfurt International Book Fair
While the BIBF is the largest book event in Asia and the world’s largest market, the world’s largest book trade fair is happening every year in Germany. The annual Frankfurt International Book Fair (FIBF) gathers over 250,000 visitors every (the largest was in 2017 with over 285 people). This year, organizers are determined to once again wow the world with its 2021 opening scheduled on October 20, 2021. After its successful virtual conference just weeks ago, the 2021 New York Library Association Annual Conference and Show are pumped up for its 2021 stint. One of the oldest and largest library associations in the United States, the NYLA gathers thousands of participants and guests every year. With luck, the 2021 New York Library Association Annual Conference and Trade show might revert to their old format come November 3 to 6.
2021 National Council Teachers of English
From Librarians, let us proceed with teachers and educators. The National Council Teachers of English is among the most prominent book events in the country. Every year, more than 7,000 educators from all over the United States take part in this gathering. Aside from book exhibitions, the event also features workshops, seminars, food events, and other activities. The 2021 NCTE is set to run from November 18 to 20.
2021 Guadalajara International Book Fair
The largest book fair in the Americas and the second largest book event in the world (second only to Frankfurt International Book Fair), the Feria Internacional del Libro de Guadalajara or commonly known as Guadalajara International Book Fair, is expected to make waves next year. It is after all the most important literary event in the Spanish-speaking world. The annual event usually lasts 9 days. This year, hopefully with the pandemic gone, the Guadalajara International Book Fair will again take the spotlight from November 27 to December 5, 2021.
