The 35th Miami Book Fair International is just few weeks away. More than 250,000 visitors will flock to Downtown Miami, Florida for the largest book fair in the United States. The annual literary event promises 8 days of author talks, panel discussions, workshops, programs, street fairs, performances and gatherings. But the 2018 MIBF is more than that. Check out 11 interesting things you can do while attending the Miami Book Fair International.

 

Witness the Festival of Authors. It’s not every day you get to witness 300 published authors from around the world come together in a single hall. These authors are some of the most respected names in their countries. Never pass an opportunity to meet and interact with these modern literary greats.

Attend Evenings With…Series. Evenings are never boring when attending the Miami Book Fair. Evenings With…Series features award-winning authors. These authors are not only best-sellers but also recipients of prestigious awards such as the National Book Award, Edgar Award, Pulitzer Award, and the National Book Award.

Document the famous Street Fair. With over 450 exhibitors and hundreds of participating authors, it is the largest book fair. Grab your camera and document one of the most important literary events in the United States.

Take a bite from The Kitchen. Every year, cook book authors treat fans to various specialties from their culinary books. The Kitchen Stadium is a large stage with a demo kitchen set up for authors who will promote their food-related masterpieces. This year, 30 author-chefs will showcase samples of their works from November 18 to 19.

Experience Downtown Miami. Aside from the street fair, there are many spots in Downtown Miami that you can check out. Aside from the hotels, downtown Miami is also home great cafes, restaurants, and bars. One night in downtown Miami is not enough.

Come to the Comix Glaxy. It may not be as big an event as Comic Con, but Miami Book Fair’s Comix Galaxy is a gathering of artists, illustrators, graphic artists and novelists on the rise. If you are looking to witness young talents and fresh illustrations, check out this program.

Drop by The Porch. The Front Porch Café is pretty much where all the party takes place every night. The restaurant is the venue for various programs such as Puppet Poetry, First Draft, Exchange for Change and other Miami Book Fair related events. If you want a night of beer, good food and live music, drop by the Porch every day after sunset.

Take part in the First Draft. First Draft is a fair program which encourages shy authors to show off their writing skills to the audience. Participants are given guided writing prompts and a round of draft beer. First round is free.

Visit Miami Dade College. The Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus is the birthplace of the Miami Book Fair International.  It was founded in 1970 and is the only comprehensive urban campus in Miami, Florida. The school enjoys two rail systems, the Miami Metrorail and Metromover. The institution is home to the Wolfson Archives and the New World School of the Arts.

Check Out Pérez Art Museum. It is Miami’s modern and contemporary art museum located in Downtown Miami, Florida. It houses international art from the 20th and 21st century. It is one of Miami’s important cultural centres.

Shop at Bayside Marketplace. Your Miami visit is never complete if you miss out shopping in Downtown Miami’s famous Bayside Marketplace. If you go there at night, you can dine while enjoying the amazing backdrop of Biscayne Bay and word-class live bands performing.
